Saturday Market Report

We celebrated Spring Fling at the Coit Road Market today, with locally grown produce. This is where you will find me every Saturday morning, spending time with local farmers and vendors. A Scientist In The Kitchen is hosting "To Market, to market ... a blogging event celebrating farmers markets everywhere. I am entering my farmers market. Correction: I stated that the tomatoes were hothouse, I have been informed by Kevin (thanks Kevin) that these tomatoes were grown in a hoop house, how cool is that ?

We had so much fun yesterday, the food demonstrations use produce bought from the stands, and I even had rhubarb ice cream ... it was delicious !

Oh, you got me with the goats! I love them and miss the ones we used to have so much.

Gosh, your market has so much variety. You are so fortunate!

The goats were actually for sale, you would have to have them dressed ... they belong to Carousel Farms, his wife makes the fudge. We also have goat cheese available from Lake Erie Creamery.

This market is my favorite, because they sell locally grown.

I got some tomatoes from Woodworth Farms just east of us, they were hothouse, but really tasty.

I made a flat bread (the 5 minute artisan) with some Amish veggie cheese last night and fresh sliced tomatoes, tossed on some S&P, basil and oregano ... yummy!

I also cooked ramps, sauteed in a little olive oil, then chopped the greens of the ramps....OMG they are sooo good.

The Pipers were special for the Spring Fling, but it is nice to visit with the farmers who grow your food.
