Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things. ~Author Unknown
I have been blessed to meet some great people from all over the world the last few years, all because of this wonderful little invention called the "internet". One very special young man, that I met on a gardening forum, told us about his garden blog "Mr. Brown Thumb". Thus my adventure into blogging began, with numerous emails and pleas of help for this technically challenged boomer mom to my young friend in the "windy city". I was out planting my onion sets this morning, hey you just have to plant something on Earth Day, and when I came indoors there was a package by my door. This urban-rooftop garden mama received a lovely pair of garden gloves, courtesy of my friend and Angela of Ethel Gloves. Thank you both so much, I promise to get them dirty LOL!
Aren't my garden gloves pretty? Those are my baby basil seedlings waiting to go to their new home outdoors.
I found this Gardener's Delight Hotbed at our local Marc's, at a great discount. This hotbed does all it promises to do. I have Roma and Cherry tomatoes, basil, parsley and lavender germinating at the moment.

I can't wait to start seeds, probably not for a few weeks, tho. When can you put them in the ground in Ohio?? We have to wait until Memorial day in Maine.
Nice gift you got there!!
Hi Elenka .. our last frost date is May 15th, but we have had an unusually warm Spring and I have the zucchini in my pots 'undercover', I am going to put out one each of my Roma and cherry maters under my recycled greenhouses .. if they do well, I will put out more .. but I will probably hold off on my herbs for a bit.
I love the garden gloves!! Cincinnati has been really quite cold this spring. I am going to wait for a while before I start planting. My "green" thumb needs all the help it can get.
I love this post and the little seedlings. Such a fresh new life appeal. I can't wait to see the progress through the seasons.
You're making me wish that I was home getting dirt under my fingernails!!! LOVE IT!!
Hi Ginger .. we have had really unusual weather, last March we had 30 inches of snow and this year just a trace. My little seedling zucchinis are doing well outdoors, and warm weather is predicted (70's and near 80) for the next week.
Giz I will be posting the progress of my garden .. thanks :)
Lucy .. I love getting dirty in the garden, need some help ?
Look at you in your new "Ethel" gloves, the limousine of garden gloves! ;) How nice was that of MBT to think of you! :) Your baby seedlings are doing great Mom.
You're a real gardener now. Glad to see little sprouts in your hotbed.
LOL Racquel .. your mama is fancy schmancy in the garden now :)
Thanks Nell .. this hotbed is great, now if my Lavender would show some signs of life ... sigh
What a nice surprise! It's wonderful to have such thoughtful friends! I love the looks of those gloves too. I seem to go through one pair of gloves per season.
I went to my local nursery today and picked up four tomato plants, two peppers, an eggplant, a squash, and Italian green bean plant. I'm hoping to get them in the beds tomorrow.
Your seedlings look so cute. I bet it's a lot of fun watching them grow.
i had no idea there was a mr brown thumb...i guess i shouldn't refer to myself as ms brown thumb anymore, eh? i am, though, so i'll watch a garden grow vicariously through you. :)
Sue it is a blast watching them peek from the soil .. I want to try eggplant next year (another large container .. LOL)
Grace .. don't let his name fool you, visit his site and drool over his plants .. a brown thumb he is not :)
I had every intention of starting my own seeds this year, but alas, I fear I may wimp out and buy starters from the farmers market. I will do some things by seed (like carrots and radishes, etc.). Your gloves look great! Looking forward to fresh garden bounty! :-)
Your gloves are lovely :)
Paula .. me too ... I am so ready for fresh, local produce!
Thanks Maryann :)
Gloves are darling. Looking forward to seeing your harvest!

Yay for great garden gloves! I had my seedlings out for recess today - and thinned some of them - made me feel terrible doing that. I need to put all in larger pots. I love looking at your basil - I look at mine and dream of pesto... and salads... and fresh! Enjoy your gloves!
Oh how I miss my garden in Ohio! I have been just north of Chicago and found my way to your blog via Brown Thumb. I grew up in Cleveland, spent 14 years there, 4 in Medina, and then 10 in Athens when I attended Ohio University. After attending Penn State me and my little family moved here to the windy region because I took my 1st teaching job after graduate school. I have not had a decent tomatoe, ear of sweetcorn, or seen a beautiful bed of flowers in my yard ever since we arrived. Keep it up for a hometown girl who misses the city by Lake Erie!
Aren't they sweet Lori? And they are already dirty ... LOL
Claudia .. my basil is coming along, I dream of pesto & salads too!
T. ... oh yes Ohio grown corn, so sweet I can eat it right off the stalk! Born and bred Clevelander here, never lived anywhere else :)
Thanks for stopping by ..
Ohiomom...good to see you're back and swingin'!
Hope you get to dry some of them maters!
We're a bit ahead down here in Florida and my maters will be ready in about 3 weeks. Yum!
Kathy now I am jealous .. 3 weeks? Take a bite out of those juicy maters for me, thanks for the post on drying maters .. I will definitely give it a try this year.
What a nice gift. I have been reading about these gloves lately. Mine wear out so quickly...think I'll buy some. I located a store near me...
Balisha .. these gloves are great, they are soft and so easy to garden with, even my little bitty seedlings were easy to handle. Hope you enjoy them :)
OhioMom,
Glad to see you got the gloves. I shared your link with the people from Ethel Gloves and they posted a link back to you on their blog. You can see it at http://tinyurl.com/ct2adp I made it a TinyURL so it fits in the comment section.
Hi MBT .. oh I LOVE these gloves, and yes I sure got them dirty already. They are so easy to garden with, flexible and soft, you don't even know you have gloves on.
Thanks for the link :)
Love those gloves. Looking forward to see what's growing.
I do too Theresa, the onions have sprouted and the lettuce is about ready for picking :)
