"To appreciate the wild and sharp flavors of these October fruits, it is necessary that you be breathing the sharp October or November air" ~ Henry David Thoreau
We are moving and I am busy packing, my entire household is topsy turvy, so what better time to post this Topsy Turvy Pie? I will be checking on everyone's blogs as often as I can, but this will be my last post for the next little while until we get settled in our new place.

1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

I just read Racquel's post about pecan harvesting and now this pie. I love anything with pecans in.I hope that you aren't gone very long. I look forward to reading and trying your recipes. Are you moving far? Take care.
What a great idea! I've got to try your oatmeal crust. Sounds so good.
Best of luck with your moving. Hope you enjoy your new place.
Good luck with the move! Hopefully to somewhere with a nice kitchen!
Love this upside-down pie!
good luck with your move...i hate moving!!!
this topsy turvy looks delightful!
I'm a sucker for anything with pecans so I'm so diving into this.
That pie looks good!
What an awesome pie... ok I'll have a slice w/vanilla ice cream ;-) And.... great recipe to boot!!
Settle in quickly... please ;-)
Firstly, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this. It's just way too unusual not to try. Very impressive.
Secondly, have you lost leave of your senses!!! It wasn't too long ago you were telling me how stressful the last move was and now you're doing it again. I'm sure there's a good reason but holy moly, it's alot and I mean ALOT of work. You have my sympathies on this one.
Thank you everyone, this pie was adapted from a Pillsbury recipe .. course I had to add a couple of tweaks :)
I live in a four story walk-up in a circa 1920's apartment building ie: no elevator!
So I am moving to the first floor, which will be a great help to the food critic and I. No more hauling groceries/laundry up those stairs.
However, even though we are not moving out of the building, everything still has to be packed up to carry down. Have I mentioned how much "stuff" I have? LOL!
The new unit has been completely remodeled ... YEAH ... and I will actually have more counter space and new cabinets! Plus .... drumroll please .. a
DISHWASHER!
Will be back soon...
this is so cool, and totally new to me! i'm sorry your life is in chaos right now--here's hoping things calm down soon. :)
wow, this looks delicious! hope you move goes smoothly.
I've never seen anything like this! It's beautiful and I bet it tastes so incredibly good! Hope your move goes smoothly; looking forward to your return!
Wow! Does that ever look good! I love how it turns out when you flip it over with those gooey pecans on top! Great concept.
Good luck with your move and your new kitchen!
I really hate moving, but it sounds like you have a great reason to do so! This recipe is so unique, I haven't ever seen an oatmeal crust for a pie, I can't wait to try it! I see you've also left the skins on the apples. While my family loves my pies, I think this is a recipe I need to try. All of the lovely apples at the market and in season, it's wonderful!
Thanks! I hate moving too, this is only my 3rd move in over 30+ years ... sigh.
This pie is incredible .. I used my own crust, but you could use any pie crust. The original recipe called for peeling the apples, but I generally leave them on, just cut them with my apple corer. So much easier :)
I have the pecans & you made the pie...great dessert Mom. Congratulations on your dishwasher! I know you will appreciate it! :)
good luck with your move and hope you are enjoying topsy turviness.
Just too good...this is wonderful!! All the best for 'moving'...take care of yourself!
good luck with the move and enjoy your new home.
What a pretty cake! Love the name too.
Speaking the witch - bouncing in from the totally-bonkers-place:
If I have to grind my teeth, I at least want something yummy between them.
Happy moving, OhioMom! I think all that stuff is breeding - Guinea-Pigs are nothing compared to a home.
Drooling, as always.
Thanks Racquel, Maybelle's Mom, PB, Bee, Jenny and Maddie.
You know how one of those weather fronts moves in and just kind of hangs around ? I have half my household packed up and haven't even begun moving yet ... sigh, I definitely need cheese with the whining I am doing these days.
Maddie ... this is my safe place, looking forward to Nov 5th :):)
Looks wonderfully delicious!
This is the most unique pie I have every seen! and it has a combo of 2 of my favorites, apples and pecan!! Double Ymmm!
I never seen anything like this. What a pie :)
I'm moving too! Good luck with your move ;)
Thanks Candy, Marie and Theresa :)
Maryann, I am in a holding pattern, all packed up and the apartment is not ready ... I am so ready for this to be over :) Good luck to you to!!
I love it! It's so fun and looks delicious.
Oh My! I have never heard of an upside down pie! Wonderful! It is beautiful and makes a pretty presentation for sure. Thanks!
BD .. thanks :)
Robin Sue .. thank you, and thanks for stopping by my blog.
Linda, I just got the latest issues of Better Homes & Gardens and Cooking Light. Both magazines featured pie recipes with oatmeal crusts. I guess you were ahead of the trend and now everyone is finally catching up with you.
WOW Sue ... I can't remember where I found mine, I have a notebook full of clipped and handwritten recipes I have collected over the years, but I do know the oatmeal crust is my fav with apples.
I will have to see if I can get a copy of these mags from my local library.
I want to know 7 things about you! (aka check my blog)
What a great looking pie! Love the name.
Thanks Veronica and thank you for stopping by my blog :)
OOOh, that looks SO GOOD! I do love apple pie and had a slice of a wonderful one when I was out to dinner with my husband. Yours easily looks just as the good as the piece I ate!
Alright, I don't think I am coordinated enough to make this pie.
Thanks Pidge, I haven't done a thing in the kitchen since we started moving but thankfully it is almost done ... one more day and then it is just clean up.
Maybelle's Mom ... get that talented husband of yours to flip it, anyone that can toss a pizza the way he does will do this in a snap :)
I'm diabetic and am always looking for recipes that might fit my diet. Your oatmeal pie crust looks great, but I'd like to substitute some/all of the AP flour with white whole wheat flour. Any suggestions for the ratio I might try so I don't end up with cardboard or glue?!!! Thanks!
Glad to hear your move went well. We did something similar several years ago. We moved to a house directly across the street...backed up a moving truck to the old house, loaded furniture and boxes, then turned the truck around and backed into the new house!
Marsha
Use equal portions of AP Flour and Whole Wheat flour. Yes, moving is moving no matter how far or near you go ... packing and unpacking are still a drag :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
