Whimsy in the garden...

These boots are made for walking but that's not what they'll do, one of these days these boots are gonna bloom all over you.

Tickseed (Coreopsis)

You know it is summer when the "garage sale" signs appear in my community, my feet automatically turn down those blocks. Who knows what goodies you may find? I spotted these boots for a grand total of 50 cents and knew they would be cute planted up. I brought them home, removed the insoles and drilled holes in the bottom. Next I added pieces of broken pot and potting mix and planted them up.

I love what you did with the boots - great they're so bright and add so much character to the entire setting. Who says you can't remodel for under $10?

Those are the cutest boots I've ever seen! And the Coreopsis really looks great planted in them. ;) The garden is really looking good Mom, everything is looking lush & healthy.

Thanks everyone ... just cause you garden on a roof, doesn't mean you can't have fun with it!

The boots are indeed cute. I love the idea of planting flowers in strange containers. The weirdest thing I did involved a toilet we replaced and was sitting in the backyard waiting for us to get enough junk for a "dump run."

When my husband's father died, his mother sent us home with some potted mums. Guess where they ended up? My father-in-law loved to joke around, so I think he'd have gotten a kick out of seeing some of his funeral flowers blooming in a retired toilet.

The boots and yellow flowers make a great focal point for your rooftop garden.

What a marvelous imagination you have. My mother had the ability to 'see' how things would look. I have to have a picture beforehand, which is why so few of my notions hit the mark.

Thanks for stopping by the relaunched Who Has Time To Cook. I really appreciate your comments. Don't worry, I will smell the flowers, if the kids don't pull them all up first! -- Jean

Sue I have seen "bowls" planted before :) .. our neighbor had one, but the neighbor across the street complained to the city and he had to remove it.

Thanks Nell ... I have some other alternative planters in the works now, when I am finished I will post them.

WHTTC .. your welcome :)

my mom is a fan of using the boot as a pot, but hers are brown. i think rain boots are better--the colors they add are delightful!

Okay - you are now officially capricious! What a grand idea! I am feeling uncreative so shall go back over your photos - they are so welcoming. I am also a garage saler - you never know what treasures you may find.

I have a pair of argyle print wellies with hearts on them that I bought on an impulse and wore about 3 times. I am now officially inspired! I shared this on my blog and plan to try this project over the weekend perhaps--hoping it's not too late to find herbs for a little herb garden! Btw, if you haven't stopped by my site please do--under the "Enter to Win" button in the sidebar are the 4 giveaways (2 new every week) that are up for grabs on the site. Dinner for 2 to Delmonico's and Sergio's in University Circle are the local food giveaways, totally free to win.
