Thinking inside the box...

"Oh, how beautiful!" and sitting in the shade ~ Rudyard Kipling

I picked up these wine boxes curb shopping one day, they have served as shelves and bookcases so why not plant containers? The Coleus was not happy in full sun and this corner of the roof is shaded by a large Ash tree, the Sedum seems happy draping over the sides of the box. This is a lovely spot to sit on a hot summer day and you can usually find me here dreaming of filling the roof to overflowing with flowers and food.

Clever post title today Mom, lol! ;) I love the wine boxes for containers for your plants. I have that same Coleus, it's called 'Watermelon'. :)

Good idea for the wine boxes. I think you have a good start on that dream of yours. Hope your 4th was nice.

I love that you curb shop! It's the best form of recycling there is! And the wine boxes are grand! Hmmm, we are encouraged so much to "think outside the box" that we do indeed forget to see what's inside! Fun post!

Thanks Racquel, and thanks for the name of the Coleus ... she is so pretty :)

Our 4th was quiet Balisha, hot dogs and hamburgers and Ohio-grown sweet corn roasted on the grill :)

Claudia ... LOL, I was "shabby before it was chic"! The only new items in my home are the electronics, never met a garage sale or thrift store I could pass by, and the curb is full of treasures waiting to be rescued from the landfills :)

You want to fill your ROOF with flowers and food??
To each his own, I guess.

LOL Elenka .. perhaps you didn't know that I live in an apartment building and the roof is my "garden"? Alas not a patch of ground to grow on, so I make do with what I have :)

I always think of rooftop gardeners as innovative and sophisticated. Wineboxes will make great containers: not so heavy and very chic.

Does your rooftop have a view?

OhioMom said...

Sophisticated? LOL .. well I will give you innovative anyway. The wineboxes will be used to grow my herbs next year, I will bring them inside for the winter and seal them. The only view I have is of a parking lot :)

Love the wine boxes as planters. You're so very creative. I've got about four coleus plants potted too. You've done a great job with your garden.

What you do on your rooftop is amazing! I could just imagine if you had a huge plot of land! I'm going hunting for some wine boxes, love that idea! Your whole new blog look is beautiful!
