Progeny

I used to visit and revisit it a dozen times a day, and stand in deep contemplation over my vegetable progeny with a love that nobody could share or conceive of who had never taken part in the process of creation. It was one of the most bewitching sights in the world to observe a hill of beans thrusting aside the soil, or a rose of early peas just peeping forth sufficiently to trace a line of delicate green. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne

Growing your own produce, are tremendously rewarding to say the least. I love watching the process from seed to picking and what a wonderful bounty!!

I could just dig into that plate right now and call that a feast!!

Now that is what you call a fresh picked from the garden meal. Your urban garden is looking great Mom and the pasta looks really delicious. :)

Pull up a chair .. It was so much fun harvesting all those herbs, I cut them back since they grow so quickly, I have two large jars of dried oregano and basil already. The basil needing cutting since it was really starting to flower. The bee will be back :)

Theresa

Have a seat. Did you notice I snuck some "z" in there ... LOL!

Racquel

Thanks, my thumb was pretty green this year :)

Priscilla

Thank you .. the herbs were just roughly chopped and the maters cut in half.

Everything looks wonderful. Your pictures are awe inspiring. I could go for some of your "after" right now. It's terribly hot & I have very little enthusiasm for preparing meals. Congratulations!

Such a clever way to share your garden and your dish - before and after! I love it.

Sue

Thanks Sue. You probably noticed I have not been doing my usual whine ... we are having wonderful days in the high 70's and cool nights :) I am lovin it!

Lori Lynn

Thanks you, the herbs, zucchini and maters were sauteed lightly in olive oil, seasoned with S&P, a little crushed red pepper for "bite" and tossed with the pasta and some parmesan cheese...can't get much easier :)

Maybelle

I confess to babying my tiny garden, my cherry maters have been prolific as well as the herbs ... the heirloom maters are coming along very nicely. The peppers are doing better, they were fussy for a while. There are expansion plans for next year :)

Oh my that looks delicious! I was just thinking about making something similar to that for dinner tonight, but I have no fresh veggie garden. :-( (boo-hiss) I do have herbs though and plan to put those to use for sure!

How are you drying your herbs? I need to do this more.

Sarah

Thank you, I love fresh veggie pastas this time of the year :)

Balisha

Thank you :)

Kathy

I have a gas stove and the pilot light in the oven provides just the right amount of heat for drying herbs. I just lay them out on paper towels on a cookie sheet and in two to three days they are ready. I store them in jars (yes, I keep all glass jars that come in my home, and since I don't buy plastic ones I have a nice supply)

I bet a veggie garden would benefit from your wonderful compost pile .. hint hint :)

ohiomom....hmmm, veggie season starts again next month (we get two seasons). Tomatoes just might be on my list!

I have an electric oven. I SERIOUSLY need to get a food dehydrator. :-)

what a clever post! i always enjoy a good before-and-after scenario, especially when the end result looks like that. hooray for gardens! :)

Jacqueline said...

You did those vegetables proud :)

OhioMom said...

Kathy

I imagine you could still lay them out on a sheet and put them in the oven, even without heat they will dry within a few days. Put those maters in the ground, then I will whine while the snow falls and you are picking fresh maters :)

Thanks Grace :) I love my little garden.

I am happy to discover your blog. I came here through Jugalbandi, as I am featuring their blog in this month´s Tried And Tasted, I hope you are participating.

Thanks Paula, it has been fun having a garden again, even a bitty one :)

The direct link of garden to table is such a heart warming site. I think it's the height of the foodie consciousness. When I talk about this with people who are not foodies they completely give me the "are you out of your mind" look. Thank goodness for like minded thinkers.

OhioMom said...

Thanks, urban and definitely prolific :)

Giz

Don't get me started ... LOL ... many have lost touch with the land and the source of our food, and have forgotten what it is to eat "seasonally".

your progeny are gorgeous. thanks for giving us a peek.

There's nothing like fresh summer home grown veggies and herbs! You've created a wonderful meal with yours!

Thanks Marie :) Next year I hope to be expanding, Lucy sent me zucchini seeds and I also want to grow beans and a larger variety of maters and peppers.
